Our start

We began in Portland, Maine in 1991 with a simple goal: create a cat toy that actually lasts. Frustrated by flimsy toys that fell apart after a few uses, we developed what would become our flagship product, the Kitty Can’t Cope Sack, a durable, potent, catnip-filled toy that cats can’t get enough of.

Over the years, what started as one better toy grew into something more: a trusted catnip company focused on quality from the inside out. Today, we continue that tradition by sourcing premium, organic, tea-grade catnip and crafting products that keep cats engaged, active, and happily occupied, just as we’ve done for over 30 years.

We source premium organic catnip from one of North America’s leading growers, chosen for quality, consistency, and freshness. Our catnip is 100% organic and tea-grade, meaning no fillers, no stems, and no shortcuts — just pure, aromatic catnip that cats love. Carefully handled to preserve potency, it delivers a stronger scent and a more reliable response, helping make every play session more rewarding.

Catnip, Nepeta cataria, is a member of the mint family of herbs. The compound in catnip, called Nepetalactone, is what cats respond to. If you've never seen a cat respond to catnip, you're in for quite a show. Feline Frolic; licking, tumbling around, 'bunny kicking,' rubbing, and lots of slobbering that typically lasts for about 20 crazy, exciting minutes. After that the cat mellows out, resetting itself before it indulgers in another irresistible encounter of catnip bliss.

We work with an organic co-op farm in the USA to grow the best catnip in the world. We selected growers with the highest quality based on freshness, color, and aroma. No chemicals or pesticides are used in cultivations! We only use the leaves and flower tops for an out of this world blend that only Kitty Can't Cope has. Our curing process may be a trade secret, but our widely raved about organic, tea grade catnip is not!

Our toys are made with durable cotton twill fabric and completely filled with organically grown catnip and nothing else!
